The Owosso area has a ton of great food choices that ranges from almost all of the major fast food chains to family restaurants and ethnic foods such as Chinese, Mexican, and even a great Cajun restaurant. The only problem has been that most of these places don’t deliver. A past client of mine has a solution to that problem!

Jon Hockman has joined the world of small business owners and is lunching a service called Owosso Eats to deliver food from any restaurant in the area to your home or business.

I sat down with Jon to talk about his idea and the business that will be live on February 28th.

Most good businesses come from identifying a problem. Tell us about how this idea came to fruition.

Owosso Eats: As an area resident, I have watched the local food options grow immensely over the last 30-plus years. One thing that never changed was the limited delivery options. We now have nearly 50 food establishments in the local area and still the same delivery options! I love pizza as much as the next guy, but something had to change. Along with changes to the area landscape, have come changes in the way people access information and purchase goods. We now use the internet and specifically smartphones to do everything from eCommerce to keeping tabs on family and friends. Owosso Eats takes those two concepts and runs with them.

The concept is great. Tell us how the service will work.

Owosso Eats: Area residents will be able to go to OwossoEats.com or download the Owosso Eats free app for Android or Apple and access area restaurant menus and other food options like never before. See over 40 area menus and, even better, now order from any restaurant in the Owosso/Corunna area to be DELIVERED to your home, office, shop, party, etc..at the push of a button on your computer or smartphone. Area selections include everything from traditional restaurants and fast food to bar food and donut shops; even coffee shops and healthier options. We have partnered with some of the area's best food establishments to bring your favorite meals directly to your door. We will even deliver food from multiple restaurants if your family is indecisive like mine. We have an extra large delivery area up to six miles away, delivering to residents that couldn't even get pizza before.

How does the ordering process work and will the food be fresh enough when it arrives?

Owosso Eats: Owosso Eats uses state-of-the-art industry technology to communicate with drivers and customers. Drivers are dispatched to deliveries via a smartphone app. They use insulated hot bags and coolers to keep your food fresh, and GPS navigation to find addresses quick and safely. Customers can even track their order progress right on their phone or computer after placing their order. We even offer push notifications of restaurant specials and deals.

I intend for Owosso Eats to be a Community One Stop Restaurant Resource. Whether you just want to peruse menus, or cater an office lunch, this is the place! As I've said we are locally owned and operated. Our hometown customer service number is 723-EATS. Area residents will be able to call that number to order as well, if they prefer.

Are you going to need to hire staff?

Owosso Eats: We are currently looking for driver-partners that live in the area. This is a perfect second job for people that are under-employed or anyone who could use extra money. Drivers can make $15 to $20 an hour simply picking up orders at restaurants and delivering them. Much like driving for Uber, we offer true flexibility. Owosso Eats allows drivers to choose their own shifts based on their availability! Obviously we could use more people with evening and weekend availability, but drivers only work when they choose. This job is fun, easy and profitable. Driver-partners are paid a preset amount per delivery plus tips. They are paid nightly, and earn more money the more deliveries they take, not the longer they work. It's a great job for teachers, stay-at-home moms, first shifters, or anyone looking to make extra money a couple of days a week. Drivers need reliable, presentable transportation, valid Michigan driver's license, and a smartphone to use the driver app; this is how we dispatch orders and communicate with drivers. Owosso Eats reviews MVRs, or driving records checks, and performs criminal background checks. Anyone interested can call 723-EATS and leave a message.

What else do you want people to know about your business?

Owosso Eats: Restaurant delivery services have existed and evolved in larger cities for years. As an area resident for over 35 years, I wanted to bring that convenience to our community. As of the end of the month, February 28th, everyone will be able to get that "Big city restaurant delivery service with our hometown customer service". Visit OwossoEats.com and the free Owosso Eats mobile app! We look forward to serving the community!
